Red Island
The Sgt. Reid Thriller Series
Was it the nightmare that woke Reid or the phone ringing in the middle of the night that brought on the dream? Sgt. Reid of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police moved his family to Prince Edward Island, “The Gentle Island,” to get away from crime and homicides. He had to get away from the nightmares and concentrate on his family.
It’s a lovely place to live. The sound of the ocean crashing against sandy beaches, sand dunes covered in tufts of dancing green grass… …And then there is the young woman hanging from a tree. It isn’t a gentle island any more. It’s Ben’s world. Whether we live or die is all up to him and Reid is going to have to play his game. |
Red Serge
The Sgt. Reid Thriller Series
The body of a young girl is found at a National Park beach. The Major Crimes Unit of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police follow the trail of clues to a mass grave.
How long had the devil been coming to Prince Edward Island?
Though fighting with personal turmoil, Reid is drawn to the case. When the killers gaze seems to fall on Reid’s daughter he is all in. He has to make this one right, but is the cost too much?
The RCMP wear their Red Serge on duty in ceremonies, to honour others, and in death.

The Cistern
An Alcrest Mystery
It isn’t always what’s in the dark that you should be afraid of…
When Chrys asks her brother, Spencer, for help to clean a foreclosed house for the bank, neither expects their lives to be on the line. It’s supposed to be a simple Sunday; take pictures…clean out the house…collect the cash. Chrys and Spencer are plunged into a fight for their lives when the house reveals unspeakable horrors.
…sometimes things in the light are even more deadly.

A missing young man. A woman’s body found in a back alley. Could the two be the connected? Enter the Alcrests. Spencer – the handsome chef and owner of The Alcrest Gastropub who’s struggling to keep the restaurant going and Chrys – his gorgeous and stupidly courageous foster sister who’s often blind to consequences.
Chrys dives right into the mystery risking herself, her brother and her co-worker’s lives as she gets them in way over their heads. As they deal with their personal lives they are quickly introduced to a cast of colourful characters – drag queens, terrorists, secret agents and a sadistic murderer with eyes on one of them.

Connections between the novels
One thing Lorne really loves about some novel series is that even though the novels may not belong together or have to be read in order a very observant reader can find links between them.
Think of Stephen King novels and how some characters from other stories show up in the future in a different novel.

- In Red Island Hillary Reid has the novel Just by Accident on her bedside table. This is the first novel-length manuscript Lorne wrote.
- In Red Serge Leigh Reid buys a CD from a singer outside of the Farmers' Market. This singer is Maeve Campbell who is the main victim in The Cistern.
- One of Maeve's songs on her CD is titled Red Island
- Future Connection: In Red Rover (the next Sgt. Reid novel) Reid and his brother's family visit The Alcrest Gastropub where his niece Izzy has started working. In The Menu Izzy is an important character
- In The Menu they give a nod to a singer who has recovered well. This is Maeve from The Cistern.
- Messed up Connection: In Red Serge there is a Chef Wylie who's sous chef Zeke is moving out west to work for Spencer Alcrest. I forgot about it when I wrote The Cistern. Wylie is used as the name for a bartender.
